Barred Owls are commonly seen and heard around Reelfoot Lake in northwest Tennessee. They are best known for their “Who cooks for you, who cooks for y’all” call, but make a variety of other sounds including a loud, boisterous duet between the male and female called a caterwaul! Dawn’s team spent a year listening for and counting Barred Owls to see if they changed the frequency and type of calls that they give during different parts of their breeding cycle. She’ll also share some of the other owls that can be observed in Tennessee.
Presenter: Dr. Dawn Wilkins, University of Tennessee-Martin
